Visiting Our Orchard

We will open on Thursday May 18, 2016.  While there will be no  fresh apples available,  there will be a number of things you can do.

Seasonal Tours

  • Stroll around our beautiful trails (downloadable map)
  • Take in the beauty of our 100 year old cottonwood poplars
  • See if you can find the 50 species of birds identified on our land.  Actual pictures and information can be found in the Saskatchewan Watershed Authority’s “A Land Manager’s Guide to Grassland Birds of Saskatchewan.
  • Bring a blanket, snacks/lunch to picnic with your family at the beach by the river
  • Bring your fishing gear and throw a few casts into the river
  • Browse the Petrofka Orchard Country Store

Happenings on the Orchard

May
  • Pruning young apple trees
  • Blooming begins
  • Store usually opens for the May long-weekend weather permitting (see hours and directions for up-to-date details)
  • Planting garden
June
  • Thinning of clusters
  • Making lots of pies
July
  • Weeding
  • Selling Strawberries (usually 1st week in July)
August
  • Grafting of rootstocks
September
  • The apple picking begins in September and usually goes until October
October
  • The winter preparation of our trees begins in October and goes through to November
  • The Petrofka Orchard Country Store closes
November – December
  • Orchard Country Store may be closed but processing continues:  making of soft cider, dehydrated apples and apple cider vinegar.  December we are always at the Sun Dog Faire in Saskatoon.
